Carbon Finance and Climate Change in Renewable Energy
Course
length: 3-4 days
Course
description
Carbon finance is a
branch of environmental
finance that covers financial tools such as carbon
emission trading to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases (GHG) on
the environment by giving carbon emissions a price. Financial risks and
opportunities impact corporate balance sheets, and market-based instruments are
capable of transferring environmental risk and achieving environmental objectives.
Issues regarding climate change and GHG emissions must be addressed as part of
strategic management decision-making.
The general term is applied to investments in GHG
emission reduction projects and the creation (origination) of financial
instruments that are tradeable on the carbon market. This course
is dedicated to professionals in the field of low carbon finance and
investment.
Designed to develop your understanding of how the challenges of
climate change are driving trillions of dollars of new investment in a huge
range of sectors, including renewable energy production, housing and
infrastructure, and prepare you to deliver this investment with advanced
knowledge and skills.
The
challenge of responding and adapting to climate change will drive trillions of
dollars of new investment over the coming decades, with major changes required
across the economy, in renewable energy production and consumption, industry,
buildings, transport and infrastructure. Delivering this investment will
require greatly enhanced capacity in all aspects of carbon finance. In addition,
following the Paris Agreement both developed and developing countries now have
